The history of Las Vegas dates back many decades and this started as a highly vegetated wetlands in the South of Nevada. Rafael Rivera, a young Mexican Scout discovered Las Vegas Valley in search of water. Las Vegas which means The Meadows in Spanish is the place where John Fremont expedition camped in 1844; 14 years after Rafael Rivera discovered the Las Vegas Valley.
Many years after that, Mormons settlers traveled to Las Vegas and built their fort on Las Vegas. Remains of the then Mormon fort are now a historical site found in the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard North and Washington Avenue.

The casinos ring with a hypnotizing medley of whirring roulette wheels and the ding-ding-ding of the slot machines.
Lights flash, cocktail shakers rattle, and the rooms hum with the energy of people gambling on having a good time.
This is Las Vegas — Sin City, Glitter Gulch, Entertainment Capital of the World.
It’s a place where fortunes are won and lost on the throw of the dice, where the cocktail hour starts at breakfast, where being bad can seem like a very good thing.
It’s a city of exuberant overindulgence that extends well beyond the gaming rooms. These days, although gambling and the naughtier forms of entertainment are as much a part of the Vegas experience as they’ve ever been, there’s plenty to appeal to visitors who have no interest in slots or craps or, indeed, the strip clubs and sex shows.

That number has fallen by about half from a year ago as the weak economy and credit constraints led several developers to reconsider their plans.
Following is a summary of casino-hotel projects currently under construction:
– Encore at Wynn Las Vegas: 2,034 all-suite hotel tower, 72,000-square-foot casino, convention and meeting space, restaurants, nightclub, swimming pools, spa and salon, and retail outlets.

There are a couple of ways to get comps in Las Vegas with the most common being to sign up for a free casino players club. Just signing up will make sure you are made some offers on returning for your next holiday to Las Vegas. Another great feature of a players card is that it can be used on nearly any game in a casino and depending on a few factors can equal quite a few comps.
Your card can be used at slot machines – just make sure you enter it properly and leave it in the slot until you are finished playing. Don’t forget to take your card out.
You can also use your card at the table games, but you have to be rated. Pit bossed will watch how you play for a couple of minutes and determine your rating based on how much you bet. When you’re done playing you’ll get your card back and depending on how long you’ve been playing you can even be comped at the table.

The Pair-O-Dice Club, constructed in 1931 and built along Highway 91, was the very first casino on “The Strip”. The El Rancho Vegas is the oldest casino having opened in 1941. It offered only 63 rooms and was in operation for nearly 20 years before being burnt down. Due to the success of the El Rancho the Hotel Last Frontier was constructed. The infamous Flamingo Hotel opened its doors in 1946.
International Hotel opened in 69 and offered an amazing 1512 rooms which made it the largest hotel in the world at the time. In the early 90s the hotel was bought and is now the Las Vegas Hilton. Las Vegas Holiday

It is a good idea to learn and study the games if you plan on doing a lot of gambling in Las Vegas. To have the best chance of winning it’s a good idea to stick to games like craps (dice) and blackjack; however avoid tables where blackjack pays only 6:5 or even cash instead of the normal 3:2 which gives the house a huge advantage.
The highest house advantage games, and the games that should be avoided, include slot machines, some craps bets (hardways and propositions) and roulette.
Never hesitate to ask a dealer for help if you get confused as to how to play as many will happily explain the game to you and even slow down the dealing.

Las Vegas is the top choice of travelers this Labor Day holiday.
The gambling mecca is the No. 1 destination of Southern Californians, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.
There will be fewer people on the Strip, if “Sin City” follows the national trend. About 2.7 million Southern Californians will take trips of over 50 miles over the three day weekend that begins next Friday. That’s down about 1.4 percent from 2007.
The number of Labor Day travelers in Southern California is expected to decline slightly, by about 1.4%, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.
Harder hit will be airlines, which will see 374,000 locals taking plane trips, off 3.4% decrease from last year. That translates to fewer hands on the handles of those slot machines at Las Vegas’s McCarran International Airport.
The Auto Club said the cutback in travel was due to high gasoline prices and a weak economy.
Nationwide, travel will be down .9 percent, with 34.38 million travelers over the unofficial holiday period which stretches from the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 29 to the evening of Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 1.
One bright spot: Gas prices on Labor Day are slightly below Memorial Day. But both holiday weekends saw prices right around $4 per gallon, while the weeks in between saw prices rise well above the mark. But with Hurricane Gustav threatening the Gulf Coast this week, prices are expected to rise as futures markets bet on the threat of damage to oil platforms.

LAS VEGAS – A fugitive Hells Angel wanted on murder charges stemming from a 2002 biker gang melee has surrendered to federal authorities.
Prosecutors say Frederick Donahue of Rodeo, Calif. turned himself in earlier this month. He appeared Friday in a Las Vegas courtroom where his trial was schedule for Sept. 8.
The 43-year-old motorcycle gang member vanished after indictments were handed down in the 2002 deadly brawl inside Harrah’s hotel-casino in Laughlin, Nev.
Two members of the Hells Angels and one member of the rival Mongol gang were killed in the battle. Prosecutors say Donahue played a key role in the shooting.
